Gothenburg’s masters of melancholy, Evergrey, have been busy. The band have just announced that their fifteenth studio album, Architects Of A New Weave, is set to land on 5th June via Napalm Records. To get the blood pumping, they’ve also unleashed the title track as a brand-new single, complete with a fancy animated visualiser to keep your eyes busy while your ears do the heavy lifting.
It’s a belter of a track that shows the guys haven’t lost their touch after three decades in the game. Frontman Tom Englund is clearly chuffed with it, pointing out that it started life as a killer keyboard riff from Rikard Zander. Tom reckons it’s a proper “fist-pumping” anthem, and honestly, we’re inclined to agree. It’s got those classic dual guitar solos and a chorus that’ll be stuck in your head for days. If you’re into your old-school melodic metal with a dark edge, this one’s for you.
The new record isn’t just a solo effort either. Fellow Gothenburg legend Mikael Stanne (of Dark Tranquillity and The Halo Effect fame) pops up on a track called “A Burning Flame”. Having those two powerhouse voices on one song is bound to be a highlight. The album was produced by Tom Englund alongside Vikram Shankar, with the mix handled by Adam “Nolly” Getgood, so you know it’s going to sound absolutely massive.
We’ve been following the band for years, and they always deliver the goods. We actually caught up with them a while back to talk about their “second wind”, and it seems that momentum is still going strong. If you want to catch them live, they’ll be appearing as special guests for none other than Iron Maiden on a couple of dates for the “Run For Your Lives World Tour” just after the album drops.
Architects Of A New Weave will be available in all the usual formats, including some proper posh limited edition vinyl for the collectors out there. You can also snag a deluxe version with a bonus album featuring extra tracks like “Heights” and “One Heart”, plus a few demos and instrumentals for the real nerds.
