Singer-songwriter Stefano Attuario has officially pulled back the curtain on his latest project, Babele, a concept album that dives deep into the messy business of inner chaos and human redemption. Following on from the groundwork laid by his singles “Insetti”, “Amen”, and “Arianna”, this new record is a bit of a cinematic journey that blurs the lines between rock, darkwave, and raw poetic storytelling.
The record was produced by Max Zanotti—who you’ll know from the likes of The Elephant Man and Casablanca—and his underground, indie sensibilities have clearly rubbed off on the sound. Co-existing in a world of light and shadow, acoustic instruments sit right next to synthesizers to create a landscape that’s as restless as it is authentic. Attuario has been pretty open about the fact that Babele was a personal necessity, a way to find some sort of order in the disorder of images and thoughts rattling around his head.
Influence-wise, you can hear echoes of everything from Goya’s paintings to the grit of authors like Bukowski and William Burroughs. The album features nine tracks that act like rooms in a psychological labyrinth, including the Kafka-inspired opener “Insetti” and the raw, intimate “Saliva Nera”. To round it off, the title track “Babele” brings the whole project home, tying together those themes of rebellion and rebirth.
