If you’re looking for something to rattle your teeth this week, look no further. Romanian black metal project Skadin has just unleashed its debut full-length, Wallachian Emperor. Hailing from Tulcea, this lot isn’t interested in the usual forest-dwelling folklore or romanticised history. Instead, they’ve served up a proper slab of confrontational noise that’s as cold and hard as the Carpathian mountains themselves.
The record is currently out in digital format via Loud Rage Music. It’s a harsh mix of raw electronics and punk-fuelled aggression that leans heavily into a sense of medieval dread and authority. Don’t go expecting much in the way of “atmosphere” or nostalgia; Skadin is more about rigid, abrasive structures designed to make the listener feel a bit on edge. It’s a direct, menacing sound that positions the project as one focused on pure dominance rather than just following black metal tradition.
The tracklist for the new record is a grim-sounding collection of tunes including:
- Rot With Me
- Infernal War
- Fallen Echoes
- Dark Woods
- Last Man Alive
- Vlad Draculea
- Outro
Whether you’re a fan of the old-school grit or looking for something that merges the digital and the diabolical, this debut is definitely worth a spin if you fancy a bit of a challenge. You can grab it now over on their Bandcamp page.
