Oslo-based black metal outfit Northern Krig have officially dropped their latest assault on the senses, titled Worship Files For Anthropophagolagnia Predators. Recorded and mixed at Icelandic Fire Records by Jan Reichel and mastered at Totenklang Studios, the record is a grim reminder of why the Norwegian scene remains the benchmark for all things cold and uncompromising.
The band originally formed back in 2021 following the demise of Skyrsdag. While the early days saw a slightly different line-up for their 2022 demo Myrk Blóðfórn, the current trio of Morfran (vocals/guitar), Miasma (bass/guitar), and Maikon Q. (drums) have truly found their stride. This new release follows on from their debut full-length Concept Of A Suicidal Journey, further cementing their reputation for delivering raw, unadulterated black metal that doesn’t mess about with unnecessary frills.
Clocking in at just under half an hour, the album is a relentless barrage of blast beats and serrated riffs. Tracks like “The Vile Red Phoenix of the Palest Moon” and “Torment and Sexual Annihilation” showcase a band that is leaning heavily into the more primitive, aggressive side of the genre. It’s the kind of record that would sound right at home in a damp basement in the dead of a Norwegian winter, and it’s exactly what the doctor ordered for those who find modern metal a bit too polished.
While the band are currently sticking to the shadows of the underground, their evolution from a demo project into a formidable recording unit has been impressive. If you like your metal fast, filthy, and genuinely unsettling, this is one you’ll want to crank up until the neighbours start complaining.
