Yorkshire’s finest purveyors of groove-heavy death metal, Godeth, are kicking off 2026 with a serious statement of intent. The Leeds-based quintet have just dropped their latest single, “Vestige”, and it’s every bit as massive as you’d expect from a band that spent the last year rattling bones across the UK.
Following on from the success of 2025’s “Fleshmonger” and “Leeches” – the latter of which nearly cracked the top ten on the Primordial Radio charts – “Vestige” is a relentless slab of aggression. Produced by Adam Gadsby, the track takes aim at the chaotic state of modern politics and the spread of misinformation. The band describe it as a “resounding ‘hell no'” to the madness of 2026, wrapped up in their signature blend of death metal brutality and hardcore intensity.
It’s a bittersweet moment for the group, however, as they prepare to bid a friendly farewell to bassist Jimmy Johnstone. Having been a cornerstone of their low-end since the early days, Jimmy is moving on to pastures new. His final shift behind the four-string will be at their headline show in Manchester this week, so make sure you head down to give him a proper send-off.
If you haven’t caught them live yet, the band’s energy is legendary – just look at the carnage in their video for “Fleshmonger”, filmed at the now sadly defunct BOOM in Leeds. With “Vestige” now firmly part of the setlist, these upcoming dates are set to be some of their most intense yet.
