Following a lengthy silence that had many wondering if they’d called it a day, German melodic death metal outfit From Ashes Reborn are well and truly back. After late last year’s surprise return with “Chasing Utopia” and the follow-up “In Truth Divided”, the Wittlich-based crew have just unleashed their third single, “Wraiths of Memories”.
The new track is a six-and-a-half-minute epic that the band describes as a “descent into the echoes of the past.” It’s a bit of a melancholic beast, shifting between fragile melodies and that driving intensity we first heard on their 2018 debut, Existence Exiled. If you’re a fan of the classic Swedish style – think early In Flames or Dark Tranquillity – this is going to be right up your street.
It’s all leading up to their highly anticipated second full-length album, also titled Chasing Utopia. While the band are keeping some of the finer details under wraps for now, the record is expected to land on 6th March. Considering the first record was hailed as one of the best debuts of 2018 by the underground press, the pressure is on, but these new tracks prove they haven’t lost their knack for a crushing riff and a decent hook.
