It’s a big day for blues fans as Laurence Jones has just unleashed his first-ever solo acoustic record. Titled On My Own, the album dropped yesterday (January 23rd) via his own label, Ron Records.
This record marks a bit of a departure from the usual electric noise we expect from Jones. It’s a deeply personal collection of songs born out of a particularly rough patch in his life. Written during a severe flare-up of Crohn’s disease, the album tackles the isolation, pain, and reflection that comes with battling an invisible illness while trying to maintain a life on the road.
Jones describes the album as a “full circle moment”, taking him back to his roots:
I’m incredibly proud of the release of my most personal album to date, On My Own. Stripped back, taking me back to where it all began, just me and my guitar. I started the classical guitar at the age of 8 years old and it feels like a full circle moment. These songs have been a lifeline to me at times, most of the songs on my new album are about my struggles and battles with Crohn’s disease and how music really is my healer. These songs came to me at a time of need, and I can’t wait to share them with the world.
The release is also a touching tribute to his family, released on his own imprint named in memory of his Grandad, Ron Redcliffe. Jones added:
I just want to say thank you to all my incredible fans for making this happen. Without all your love and encouragement when I have been at the lowest point in my life with my health, you were always there to cheer me on. I hope this album stands the test of time as it’s a way for me to carry on doing the music and what I love but without putting my body through the paces. It’s intimate, real and the blues!
