Finnish post-hardcore stalwarts Rats Will Feast are gearing up to unleash their latest offering, an EP titled An Evocation. Set for release on April 3rd, 2026, through Time To Kill Records, this new record follows on from the destructive intensity of their 2024 album Hellhole.
Hailing from Jyväskylä, the band have been making a racket since 2018, blending extreme aggression with a touch of hallucinatory chaos and melodic depth. By all accounts, An Evocation is shaping up to be their most focused release yet. It’s a celebration of nearly a decade of refining their sound, condensing that experience into a punchy, defined expression of metallic hardcore.
The new EP promises to take listeners on a bit of a trip, balancing violence with an intensely melodic approach. It opens with “First Snow”, a track that apparently starts things off with a tranquil, false sense of comfort. But don’t get used to it, as the chaos kicks in shortly after. You can expect blistering beats and frenzied riffs on tracks like “Smartless” and “Frail Bones”, while the title track “An Evocation” and “Observer” bring the crushing weight. It sounds like a proper emotional rollercoaster.
Lyrically, the band are steering clear of fantasy lands and dystopian sci-fi. Instead, they’re focusing on the real world—specifically the mental struggle between acceptance and resentment. It’s about finding a safe haven in the turmoil of modern life and using heavy music as a valve to let the painful stuff out. It delves into that question every musician asks themselves eventually: why do we keep getting up on stage to do this? The answer, it seems, is catharsis.
For fans of Converge, Breach, Mastodon, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, this is definitely one to watch. The first single is expected to land in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled. In the meantime, you can pre-save the release here.
