If you like your metal soaked in blood and smelling of gasoline, you’re in for a treat. Gore metal legends Exhumed are back, and they’re trading the graveyard for the open road with their new album Red Asphalt. The record is set to hit the shelves on 20th February 2026 via Relapse Records.
To get the engine running, the band have dropped a brand new single, “Unsafe At Any Speed”. True to form, it’s a fast, nasty slab of deathgrind that promises to leave listeners with whiplash. The new record sees the band shifting gears—quite literally—moving away from their usual haunts to tackle the horrors of the American highway.
Mastermind Matt Harvey explains the change in scenery: “We’re very stoked to be back in your ear-holes with Red Asphalt. Our recent albums have taken you with us through the graveyards and operating theaters of 19th century Scotland, the horror aisles of the video rental stores of our youths, and through the band’s history itself.”
He continues: “This time around, we’re inviting you to accompany us to a place that we spend a disproportionate amount of our lives, someplace familiar yet far more dangerous than it feels, a place that can take you to the hospital or the grave in more ways than you can imagine: the American roadway.”
It sounds like the perfect theme for a band that has made a career out of sonic obliteration. Expect songs about vehicular homicide, defective cars, and zombified biker gangs—a love letter to the road, written in blood.
Even better news for punters on this side of the pond: Exhumed are bringing the new material to the UK in April. They’ll be joined by labelmates Gruesome, making for a cracking double bill of old-school death metal worship.
