If you like your rock ’n’ roll with a side of grit and a massive dose of attitude, you’ll want to keep an ear out for Savage Beat. The Amsterdam-based quintet have been doing the rounds since 2016, flying the flag for what they’ve dubbed “street boogie” – a high-octane cocktail of late ’70s punk, pub rock, and Oi! that hits like a pint over the head. They’ve just announced that their new full-length record, Bright Lights, Tall Shadows, is set to land on 6th March 2026 via Wap Shoo Wap Records.
Recorded at Studio Mono in their home city during 2024 and 2025, the album was produced and mixed by Steven van der Werff before being sent over to Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound for mastering. While the band haven’t lost their knack for a rowdy chorus, the new material sees them digging a bit deeper. You’ve still got the pure rock ’n’ roll fuel of tracks like “Cut To The Chase” and “Three Chord Disciple”, but they’ve also explored some darker, more introspective corners on “Killer Inside” and the title track. There’s even a nod to Amsterdam’s rebellious history with the instrumental opener, “Street Boogie Confidential”.
For those who can’t wait until March, the lads are dropping two singles to whet your whistle. “The Side Hustle” arrived yesterday, and “Unhinged” is set to follow on 19th February, accompanied by a fresh music video. If you’re a fan of The Hellacopters, Cock Sparrer, or the raw energy of the MC5, this is one record you’ll definitely want to get your hands on. It’s loud, it’s proud, and it’s exactly the kind of record that makes you want to find the nearest dive bar and stay there until last orders.
