Wisher search for the fountain of youth on new single “Aqua De Vida”

Wisher have returned to the fray with a brand new track, “Aqua De Vida”. The single marks a bit of an evolution for the group, showcasing a sound that isn’t afraid to let things breathe a little before hitting you with the heavy stuff. It’s a mix of restraint and release, balancing the calm with the chaotic.

Translating roughly to “Water of Life”, the song lives up to its moniker by flowing through shimmering atmospheres and hypnotic rhythms before crashing down with layered guitars and crushing dynamics. It’s a track that tries to balance cinematic scope – something the band are keen on – with a raw, human vulnerability. The vocals feel urgent, sitting right in the pocket of that heavy-yet-melodic sweet spot.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the track is its rather specific inspiration. It’s not every day we get a metal song based on the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides. The band have cited the quest for the Fountain of Youth and the storyline between the characters Syrena and Phillip as the driving force behind the music. It’s a bold move to write a song for the crossover crowd of Disney fanatics and metalheads, but fair play to them for carving out that niche.

The band’s influences are just as eclectic as their lyrical themes. Drawing from the orchestral grandeur of Hans Zimmer and the twin-guitar attacks of Avenged Sevenfold, they also list the likes of Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, and even Christina Aguilera as key inspirations. It’s a melting pot of styles that results in a sound that is undeniably heavy but packed with melody.
