There is some movement in the underground scene over in Northern Portugal, as Luso-Brazilian outfit Straight Against Fall have announced they have signed a deal with Psywar Records. It marks a significant step forward for the band as they prepare to unleash their next chapter of heavy music.
The band, who formed back in 2023, have been turning heads since the release of their debut EP, Ruthless, in 2024. If you haven’t heard them yet, they bring a fairly unique mix to the table. We’re talking about a sound that blends the aggression of metal hardcore with some genuinely eclectic influences. The band themselves cite everything from the brutality of Cannibal Corpse to the grunge grit of Nirvana, and even elements of Fado—the traditional, melancholic folk music of Portugal.
The upcoming album, which is slated for release in 2026, promises to push these boundaries even further. According to the band, the new material will explore themes of longing, love, hate, and the immigrant experience. Drummer and founder Guimaraes Junior explains that tracks like “Void In Me” tackle the feeling of ‘saudade’ (a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing), proving they aren’t afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves amidst the heaviness.
The folks at Psywar Records seem pretty chuffed with the signing, too. Label founders Vinny and Berman noted that working with Straight Against Fall is about more than just releasing records; it’s about nurturing Brazilian roots within the European metal circuit and strengthening the underground connection between the two countries.
With a lineup featuring Anderson Ferracini on vocals, guitarists Luis Henrique Favaretto and José Mattos, bassist Fábio Schuck, and Guimarães Jr. behind the kit, the band are looking to make a serious impact across Europe and beyond.
