London-based label NMTCG has just dropped the physical edition of their ambitious new split concept album, Wilderness of Mirrors. While the digital version hit the airwaves back in November to coincide with the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the CD release was held back until December 26th – a date chosen specifically to mark the anniversary of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
It’s not often you see a proper split album these days, let alone one with such a cohesive narrative running through it. Rather than just chucking a few tracks together, the label has curated a collection that delves deep into the paranoia and political intrigue of the Cold War era. The title itself – Wilderness of Mirrors – is a nod to the terminology used in counter-intelligence to describe a landscape of deception, which feels pretty apt given the subject matter.
The release features four heavy hitters from the label’s roster: Stealth, Maxdmyz, Die Kur, and Six is Six. Each act brings their own sonic flavour to the table, resulting in a mix that spans industrial, metal, and experimental sounds. It’s a heavy listen, designed to reflect the tension and cultural reverberations of a divided world.
If you missed the digital drop last month, the physical edition is now available directly from the NMTCG store and the bands themselves. It’s a solid pick for anyone who likes their riffs served with a side of historical grit and psychological tension. The album is also streaming now on all the usual platforms if you want to try before you buy.
