Florence, Italy’s premier purveyors of instrumental fuzz, Lord Elephant, are back to shake the foundations of the new year. The psychedelic doom trio has unleashed their boisterous new single, “Gigantia”, offering a crushing preview of their upcoming sophomore album. You can check it out over on Outlaws of the Sun.
Titled Ultra Soul, the new full-length record is scheduled for release on January 30th via the ever-reliable Heavy Psych Sounds. It serves as the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2022 debut, Cosmic Awakening.
On this new seven-track collection, the band aims to fuse a jam-packed blend of bluesy doom and heavy psychedelia into a potent, acid-drenched concoction. Drawing influence from the spirits of the 70s, 90s, and 00s, Lord Elephant crafts a sound that is both towering and trip-inducing, while maintaining a touch of class amidst the heaviness. If you are a fan of instrumental titans like Earthless, Belzebong, or Church of Misery, this is likely going to be right up your street.
Ultra Soul was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Studio 73 in Ravenna by Riccardo Pasini, known for his work with Nero Di Marte and Ephel Duath. The striking artwork and layout come courtesy of JJ Farfante ArtLab.
Since forming in 2016, Lord Elephant has been busy earning their scars on the road. They have shared stages with heavyweights such as Eyehategod, Nebula, and Bongzilla, and stormed across Europe in the summer of 2023 with the legendary Weedeater. With the release of “Gigantia” and the impending arrival of Ultra Soul, the trio looks set to push their sound into even heavier and more expansive territory in 2026.
