Long-standing pillars of the Italian heavy metal scene, Burning Black, have announced a significant change to their rhythm section. The band, who have been active since 2003, have officially welcomed the highly acclaimed bassist Alberto Rigoni to their ranks.
Fans of the genre will likely recognise Burning Black from their extensive back catalogue, which includes the albums Prisoners Of Steel, MechanicHell, Remission Of Sin, and their most recent output, Resilience Of A Broken Heart. Known for blending melodic sensibilities with a powerful, classic metal foundation and modern influences, the group is looking to bolster this sound with Rigoni’s impressive technical pedigree.
Rigoni brings a wealth of international experience to the table. Having previously played with prog-rockers Twinspirits and currently active with BAD AS, he also co-produced the ambitious first Vivaldi Metal Project. His solo career is equally prolific, spanning 14 albums since 2008 and featuring collaborations with progressive rock royalty such as Jordan Rudess, Gavin Harrison, and Marco Minnemann. His latest solo effort, Nemesis Call, is out now via Eclipse Music and RockShot Records, and he is reportedly working on a new project with fellow bass legends Michael Manring and Stuart Hamm.
The arrival of Rigoni follows the departure of Nikk Damian, who served as the band’s bassist since 2017. Burning Black have expressed their warm gratitude to Damian for his years of dedication, shared journeys, and artistic contribution, noting that he will always remain a part of their history.
Rigoni is already settling in well with his new bandmates, stating: “We only had a few rehearsals, and I immediately felt at home, both personally and musically. There’s an incredible atmosphere between us, and I’m honoured to be part of this historic band! We’re ready to rock the stages!”
The refreshed lineup is not resting on its laurels; they are already hard at work writing material for their next album and are planning a series of live dates to debut the new formation.
