Fresh off the back of signing on the dotted line with Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records, Icelandic heavy psych outfit Sleeping Giant have spilled the beans on their long-awaited debut full-length album. Titled The Beauty of Obliteration, the record is slated to hit the shelves and digital streaming platforms on February 6th, 2026. For the collectors out there, you’ll be able to grab physical copies on CD as well.
To celebrate the news and give us a taste of what’s to come, the lads have dropped a brand new video for the track “Mobilizer of Evil”. It’s a proper slab of groove-driven heaviness that gives you a solid idea of what these guys are all about – raw, uncompromising noise with a serious chip on its shoulder. It’s taken a while, but the band are finally ready to unleash this beast. Recorded back in 2024 at Stúdíó Paradís, the aim was to capture that raw, ferocious energy they bring to the stage. They haven’t just thrown together a random collection of songs, either. The six tracks on offer have been carefully curated to blend a whole host of heavy genres. We’re talking stoner, doom, thrash, death, and sludge metal all thrown into the melting pot. It sounds like a massive, distinctive wall of sound is heading our way.
Lyrically, the band are keeping things appropriately grim for a doom record. They’re exploring the classic themes of human hubris, inner darkness, and our own self-destructive flaws. Musically, you can expect sinister riffs that stick in your head, heavy drums, and some commanding vocals to top it all off.
