It’s been a fair old while, hasn’t it? over ten years, to be precise, since UK slam merchants Engorgement first spewed their debut album Excruciating Intestinal Lacerations onto an unsuspecting public. That record was a delightful mix of serial killers and bodily fluids that cemented their place in the underground, but things have been a bit quiet since then. Well, if you’ve been patiently waiting for another dose of musical nastiness, it’s time to celebrate. The band are finally breaking their silence with chapter two: They Rot Beneath Our Floor.
Set for release on March 20th via the heavy hitters at Comatose Music, this new record promises to be exactly the kind of endurance test fans of the genre love. We aren’t talking about catchy choruses and radio-friendly melodies here. This is slam. It’s designed to be violent, caustic, and heavier than a sack of spanners.
The album is bookended by a creepy intro and outro, but the meat in the sandwich sounds absolutely ferocious. Tracks like “Sanctum Of Gore” and the charmingly titled “Complete Bowel Extraction” (would it be a slam album without a title like that?) are set to deliver a barrage of machine-gun drumming and vocals that sound more like a beast than a human. It’s a relentless assault of gargantuan riffs intended to bludgeon the listener into submission.
To ensure maximum damage, the band enlisted Floor van Kuijk (of Korpse and Carnifloor fame) to mix and master the beast at GLDCHN Studios. It’s shaping up to be a grim, barbarous release that peels back the floorboards to reveal the rot underneath. If you think you can handle it, mark your calendars for March.
