Bardo Thodol release debut album ‘Sumerian Tragedy’

Italian heavy metal outfit Bardo Thodol have officially unleashed their debut full-length album, Sumerian Tragedy. The record is out today, November 28th, 2025, through Obelisk Polaris Productions and is available in both digital and CD formats.

Formed in 2022, the band takes its moniker from the Tibetan “Book of the Dead”. The group features a lineup of experienced musicians, including vocalist Ginevra De Giusti (Hands of Orlac), guitarist Peter Svensson (Void Moon, Assassin’s Blade), and drummer Scott Naylor (Iron Void). Their sonic approach melds the atmosphere of Italian horror metal with the weight of Swedish doom, built upon a solid traditional heavy metal foundation. Listeners can expect heavy riffs intertwined with ominous keyboard melodies, supported by intricate percussion.

Following the release of their sold-out demo cassette Demon Unleashed, Bardo Thodol entered the studio to craft their first long-player. Sumerian Tragedy consists of ten tracks selected from a larger session of thirteen songs, showcasing the band’s focused creative output. To mark the release, a lyric video for the title track has been made available for viewing.
