Morke, the medieval black metal project helmed by multi-instrumentalist Eric Wing, is giving fans an early listen to its fourth full-length album, To Carry On. The entire record is currently streaming exclusively via Decibel Magazine ahead of its official release this Friday, October 10th. The album will be available on LP, CD, and digital formats through True Cult Records.
The new record follows the 2024 EP, Forged in Steel and Love, which saw the project move from atmospheric black metal towards a more melodic, medieval-inspired sound that has been dubbed “Castle Metal”. This evolution is something noted by Decibel Magazine, who hail the new album as being “more melodic than past Morke efforts, with chiming, majestic reverb-heavy guitar lines providing the echoing ‘castle metal’ vibe Wing has been pursuing with the project.”
Speaking on the creation of the album, Eric Wing shares his passion for the project: “This album has been a devout labour of love, blood, sweat, and tears across the two and a half years of near-weekly work it took to complete. I pulled from a wide range of melodic death and dark metal influences — from Fall of the Leafe and Dark Tranquillity to Agalloch, Obsequiae, and Empyrium — to bring this vision to life. This is the album I’ve wanted to make from the moment I started writing it, and I couldn’t have done it without my dear friends CJ Yacoub, Tanner Anderson, and Neil Schneider.”
To Carry On delivers nine tracks steeped in the spirit of ’90s European melodic death metal, drawing comparisons to bands like Dark Tranquillity, Dawn, and A Canorous Quintet, while blending them with modern atmospheric flourishes. The album’s majestic and ferocious soundscape is expanded with guest appearances from Tanner Anderson (Obsequiae) and drummer CJ Yacoub, solidifying Morke’s place within the realm of Castle Metal.
You can listen to To Carry On in its entirety now at Decibel Magazine.
