Connecticut-based traditional doom and psychedelic metal entity Harmozel has returned with the release of its newest album, Songs of the Hungry Ghosts. The project, which was born in the temples built by genre titans such as Elder, Candlemass, and Cirith Ungol, continues to carve its own unique path. Harmozel’s sound is a potent blend of bold experimentation and a grandeur inspired by Gregorian chants, offering a daring and atmospheric twist on classic doom metal.
The new album features eight unique and haunting tracks, promising listeners a journey through furnace-forged riffs that have been hammered into what the band describes as a “kaleidoscope of blood and hallucinatory visions”. The album’s title and track names, such as “The Fall Of Pistis Sophia” and “Tara Of The Liberating Knives”, suggest a deep dive into esoteric and mythological themes, promising a rich and immersive listening experience that goes beyond simple heavy metal. The entire project is the creative vision of Pat Jenkinson, who wrote and performed all music and lyrics on Songs of the Hungry Ghosts. Jenkinson also mixed the album at Primordial Sound Studios, with final mastering handled by Audiosiege Mastering.
