Gypsy-punk legends Gogol Bordello are back with an explosive new track just in time for their return to the UK this autumn. Released today via frontman Eugene Hütz’s own Casa Gogol Records, “We Mean It, Man!” is the band’s first original song in over three years and sets a tenacious tone for their upcoming live dates.
Three decades into their career, the new single is as enigmatic and unpredictable as anything the band has ever produced. Described as a frenzy of punk-sizzled distortion and a ground-scorching call-to-arms, the track was produced and mixed by Adam “Atom” Greenspan, known for his work with Idles, Nick Cave, and Bloc Party.
Speaking about the track, frontman Eugene Hütz says:
“We Mean It, Man” is like taking the inner temperature of the eternal seeker and surfer of positive vibrations. It’s someone who is bellydancing on status quo-tables and healing itself from the world’s lies and irony while reaching for rays of joyous healing unity. This is the inner temperature of Gogol Bordello.
With Hütz firing out the chorus like a maniacal mantra, it’s an incendiary return perfectly suited for these incendiary times. The track is sure to be a highlight of their eagerly awaited UK tour, which kicks off later this month. The run of dates includes a now sold-out show in Brighton, as well as stops at iconic venues like the Albert Hall in Manchester, SWG3 in Glasgow, and a two-night residency at London’s Electric Ballroom.
Support for the tour will come from Son Rompe Pera, Split Dogs, and the psychosleaze provocateurs Puzzled Panther. The latter is an intriguing project featuring Victoria Espinoza, Kay Bon Tempo, Gogol Bordello’s own Eugene Hütz, Brian Chase of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Rob Mellinger. Puzzled Panther will also be physically releasing their Madchester/NYC mash-up EP, Fits of Serenity, on October 24th.
The new single follows a busy period for Hütz and his label, which recently saw the release of an Americana album from Agnostic Front’s Vinnie Stigma and a charity collaboration between Gogol Bordello and The Yagas (fronted by actress Vera Farmiga) on the Ukrainian love song “Chervona Ruta”.
