Covenant release charity ‘Andreas EP’ in memory of former member

Swedish future pop pioneers Covenant have today, October 17th, released their new Andreas EP. This is the band’s first new material in nearly a decade and serves as a heartfelt tribute to their great friend and former band member, Andreas Catjar-Danielsson, who tragically passed away from cancer on July 29, 2024.

In a gesture of support for his family, all profits generated by the band and their label from the Andreas EP will be donated to a charity benefiting his sons, Ivo and Andrej.

The band commented on the release:

Today is the official release day for our tribute EP to our great friend and band member Andreas Catjar-Danielsson, who passed away far too young of cancer last year. The ‘Andreas EP’ is a charity project with all profits going to Andreas’ sons Ivo and Andrej. Most of them have been sold in advance, but there are some left if you feel like supporting a good cause and get a fine vinyl EP in return. As Andreas used to say: ‘Take care and control’.

The EP features five experimental tracks, including two cover versions: a rendition of Lee Hazlewood’s “A Rider on a White Horse” and Yazoo’s classic “Winter Kills”.

Formed in Helsingborg, Sweden, in 1988, Covenant drew inspiration from electronic giants like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, and Front 242. They quickly made a name for themselves in the electro scene following their impactful 1994 debut album, Dreams of a Cryotank. Throughout a career spanning nine studio albums, the band has consistently pushed the boundaries of electronic music, earning a reputation for emotional intelligence and excellent musical craftsmanship.

The Andreas EP is available now as a limited edition black vinyl EP from the SPKR store and via Bandcamp.
