A new book, Backstage Chronicles, is set to pull back the curtain on the music industry, revealing a host of wild and unheard stories from the roadies, managers, and crew who were there for the wild ride. The book, curated by veteran tour manager Carl Miller, is out now.

Miller, renowned for his work as Cat Stevens’ tour manager and with a career that has included everyone from Iron Maiden to the Kirov Ballet, has gathered a wealth of Spinal Tap-esque anecdotes from his contemporaries. The stories feature music legends like Ginger Baker, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and even pop icon Britney Spears, alongside a chance encounter in a lift with Hollywood star Steve McQueen.
The book promises a unique perspective from the unsung heroes of the music world. Contributions come from a host of industry insiders, including Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill, Alvin Gibbs (UK Subs, Iggy Pop), music impresario Andy Cowan-Martin, Carole King’s road manager Jock McClain, Primal Scream roadie Sam Card, and Miller himself.
Ian Hill of Judas Priest commented: “I have been in the rock business for over fifty years. In that time, I’ve seen and heard many funny and crazy things. Here are but a few.”
Compiler Carl Miller added: “I’ve worked with some great people, both front and backstage over fifty plus years. This is their tribute! It’s been a great ride, and if stories don’t get repeated they get lost.”
Backstage Chronicles shines a light on the war stories and recollections from those who rarely get the credit, promising that you may never look at your favourite artists in the same way again.
