A new force has emerged from the shadows of Europe in the form of Zythaex, a Hungarian/Icelandic black metal collaboration. The duo, forged through a long-distance friendship, has now unleashed its debut release, Devouring Principle. The project is a creative union between vocalist BÁL, based in Érd, Hungary, and instrumentalist JTS, from Reykjavík, Iceland, who together channel the fiery restlessness of Hekla and the shadowed depths of the Carpathians into their music.
Devouring Principle is presented not merely as a collection of songs, but as a profound meditation on existence as a process of erasure. The band’s ethos is steeped in cosmic nihilism, exploring a universe where eldritch forces stir in the void, stars collapse, and galaxies drift toward an inevitable oblivion. The music aims to follow the very unravelling of thought, the fading of memory, and the slow extinguishing of light until silence becomes the only remaining truth.
This debut release delves into deeply philosophical and sombre themes, proposing that birth is the first shadow of the grave and that life itself is the seed of its own undoing. For Zythaex, the self is a fragile and ever-dissolving pattern, and time is the quiet, relentless hunger that draws all things back into the void of nothingness. The music serves as an auditory journey along this unavoidable path to dissolution, a path that all things must ultimately walk.
Fans of atmospheric, philosophical, and bleak black metal are invited to experience this unique international project. Devouring Principle is available to stream and purchase now.
