Occult doom-rock sextet Wolvennest have announced details of their most ambitious work yet: the double album Procession, set for release on October 17th via Consouling Sounds. The Belgian coven has also shared the second single from the album, the haunting track “The Shadow Of Your Side.”
Following a decade of activity that includes four full-length albums and a string of other releases, Procession sees the band returning to a long-form format, approaching eighty minutes of unrelenting atmosphere. “Our previous work was a side A/side B journey, but we all felt that returning to a longer format meant erasing boundaries altogether,” explains guitarist and synth-conjurer Corvus. “Procession is an all-or-nothing offering – it begins with warmth and ascends into death and despair.”
Forged from backgrounds in rock, occult doom, psychedelia, and black metal, Wolvennest have earned a formidable reputation across Europe with transcendent live rituals at festivals like Hellfest and Roadburn. True to their collaborative tradition, the album features a guest appearance from Hekte Zaren of Adaestuo on the track “Tarantism.” Guitarist Michel Kirby recalls, “It became instantly clear that Hekte Zaren was the perfect vessel for the song ‘Tarantism.’ She is a key to the Otherworld, a rarity in these times.”
Lyrically, the album’s message is stark and uncompromising. “Strip the word procession of its religious bindings,” explains lead guitarist Marc De Backer. “This world has had its chance, and our species has failed utterly. This procession is the soundtrack of our extinction, plain and simple.”
Procession also marks the recording debut of new bassist VaathV. The album was once again mixed and mastered by Déhà at Blackout Studio in Brussels, with artwork entrusted to Arts of Maquenda. The release will be supported by a European tour alongside Dolch and Double Darkness.
