Creeping Jean release new single “God Bless Honking Clover” ahead of free London acoustic shows today, UK tour dates kicking off tomorrow and Record Store Day 7” release this weekend.
Known for their electrifying live performances and groove-laden indie anthems, Creeping Jean deliver more of their gritty, anthemic, psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll this month with their exclusive limited edition Record Store Day 2025 release including two specially recorded tracks “Spice Rack” and “God Bless Honking Clover” on The Clothes Shop 7” out April 12th.
What is “God Bless Honking Clover?” The song, out digitally today, is a stonking Jack-White inspired piece of gritty rock’n’roll that oozes cool straight out the vintage clothes store by the sea. “Honking Clover was a mysterious social media profile that interacted with our content, claiming to be the “tiniest man in the world”. After drinking a few too many Spritz in Venice during our tour with the Rival Sons last year, we decided to investigate and it turns out it wasn’t the tiniest man in the world, or even a man. We like the sonority of the username Honking Clover, so God bless that!” explains Creeping Jean guitarist Rod.
Recording both new tracks directly inside “Mammoth” their retro second-hand clothes shop in Brighton on a rainy Sunday last November, using the piles of 70’s clothes and vintage Levi’s as sound insulators worked surprisingly well. Produced & Engineered again by Dan Crook (who also produced last year’s new Creeping Jean album Business Is Dead) Crook made the upstairs changing rooms into his production booth. This release is recorded on the highstreet for the highstreet, capturing the raw energy of their music inside the very shop that has helped fund their journey.
Frontman Oliver Tooze explains:
The shop has been the backbone of everything we’ve done, so recording inside it just felt right. We shut up shop for the day, and recorded the two new tracks crammed inside with all the jeans, leather jackets, and belts. We just went for it. It was chaotic but perfect.
