Maggie Fuzzbox Presents is a project curated by founding member of We’ve Got a Fuzzbox and We’re Gonna Use It, Maggie Dunne (aka Maggie Fuzzbox on socials). Produced by Wired Squire, who are Blockheads frontman and producer of Bananarama, Hazel O’Connor, Toyah, The Fall, Ian Brown and many more Mike Bennett and Nature of Wires supremo Gary Watts, the project brings together tremendously talented female artists from around the globe, for an album of new and recycled Fuzzbox songs called Fuzzed Off, which is due out some time in 2024.
Included in the album is the single “Supernova (Maggie Dunne vs Gizz Butt Fuzz Off Mix)”, which is a brand new version of a 2016 Fuzzbox hit starring Firouzeh of melodic/power metal band Control the Storm on lead vocals and Jenny Tingle of Visceral Noise Department on flute. The all-female mould has been slightly broken, due (as the title suggests) to the special guest appearance of Gizz Butt (Prodigy/Foo Fighters/English Dogs/Janus Stark) on guitar. “Supernova (Maggie Dunne vs Gizz Butt Fuzz Off Mix)” will be released on all major platforms on January 5th 2024 and includes a 4:28 version as well as a 6:15 extended mix.
To celebrate the release of the new Fuzzbox single “Supernova”, Maggie, Firouzeh and Manchester legend Melanie Williams will be performing at Subside in Birmingham on Sunday January 14th and Sunday January 21st. On the 21st they will be joined by Jenny Tingle on flute & drums and Sarit Black on bass. Subside used to be called The Barrel Organ and is the venue where We’ve Got a Fuzzbox and We’re Gonna Use It played their first gig in the 80s. Entry is free.
