Hailing from Birmingham, UK, 4-piece Post Punk band Cage Park create a unique sound – drawing influences from a vast range of genres. By combining exciting guitar riffs, intricate yet powerful drums and sturdy basslines the band create memorable, bold instrumentals, which are paired with cleverly crafted, catchy vocals. Cage Park’s new EP Holding On To Hand Me Downs clearly showcases this. This collection of songs presents a more mature and exciting direction for the band.
The Holding On To Hand Me Downs EP is Cage Park’s most extensive and well-crafted project to date. The 6 songs range from fast paced, energetic punk tunes such as “Split Ends” and “Ninety-Nine”, to more laid back, intricate moments, like “Sofa Bed” and “BUS” which even breaks into a Latin-inspired bridge. Thematically this EP describes growing up in Birmingham: being a bus ride away from town, watching friends move to other cities and holding on to childhood roots. In the song “MUD” the band describe the experience of attending and playing the Y Not Festival as 16-year-olds. However, “Hand Me Downs” is based around the recent changes in the four’s lives, leaving college and taking gap years. Wanting to move towards adulthood but still ending up on the sofa watching cartoons.

The EP’s singles have already drawn lots of attention, with “Hand Me Downs” being featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC Introducing mixtape on Radio 6, and earlier singles “BUS” and “MUD” both being featured on BBC Midlands Introducing alongside multiple interviews and track of the day.
Cage Park will be headlining at Dead Wax in Birmingham on the 17th April to promote their EP Holding On To Hand Me Downs which will be released on 8th April. They will also be playing the Birmingham O2 Institute 2 on the 22nd April, The Castle Hotel in Manchester on May 1st, and Sonic Wave Festival on June 4th.
