Surprise announcement or not? Certainly it’s resulted in a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from a huge number of their fans (check out the comments on their facebook page), but it’s happening. My Chemical Romance have announced that after 12 years and 4 albums, they’re packing it all in.
The statement was brief:
“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

On a personal note, I’m a little disappointed as I never got to see them live. Haters gonna hate, but I thought The Black Parade was a superb album and I’d really have liked to have seen how they carried it off in concert.
Ah well.
