Road to Call of the Wild 2026: Cell Games

Now that we’re in May, we’re closing in fast on Call of the Wild and we’re going to be back for another year! So we’re getting to know as many of the bands set to play the Trailblazer Stage in 2026 that we can pin down. Cell Games play the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Different parts of Ireland originally but we’ve all converged in Dublin.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

This lineup is just over a year and a half old but we’ve been knocking about since 2021.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Cell Games is an arc in Dragonball Z that Maximillion (our singer) thought had a cool ring to it and we couldn’t disagree.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’ve started calling ourselves a nu-groove band because we have a lot of nu-metal elements like the low tunings and electronic influences but we’re all about having huge grooves too. A dance battle could break out at any time with some of these riffs!

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

You simply will not see shorter shorts at another gig. Shorts aside, a Cell Games show is just a fun time from start to finish and the music is pretty alright too.

Have you been to Call of the Wild before? What did you think?

We haven’t been but we’re very excited. This is only our second trip to the UK as a band and our first festival over there so we’re expecting a great time.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Call of the Wild?

Have they made a mistake?! Well, it’s too late now.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

This is a lot of people’s introduction to us so there’ll be no let up from start to finish. We’ll be throwing everything we have into this one.

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Hopefully we’re able to catch our friends in Straight For The Sun. We toured with them last year and they put on a great show.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re on the verge of putting out something new. It might even make an appearance at Call Of The Wild if you’re lucky!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

On our last UK tour a guitarist in one of the other bands jumped from the stage, over the subwoofers, over the barricade and landed cleanly in the crowd on both feet without breaking anything or missing a note.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Tristan (guitar) will normally be filled with enough caffeine to take down a horse. Niall (drums) might have a pint and Maximillion (vocals) will have a vodka and Coke because he’s more refined. Resident lunatic, Deb (bass), will usually knock back a whole Lucozade.
