Road to Bloodstock: Rough Justice

Continuing our run of letting you know a little more about as many of the bands on at Bloodstock 2025 as we possibly can before you get a chance to see them, we have Rough Justice. This bunch play on the Sophie Lancaster stage on the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Four out of five of us grew up in the S8 area of Sheffield and all of us have been friends since we were in secondary school and younger.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The band started in 2011 with just myself (James) and Ed. We released our demo early 2012 so we’ve been a band for over 13 years.

Where does the name of the band come from?

No real story behind the name. It sounded hard.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s hard to describe, but I like that about Rough Justice. We’re a hardcore band but have a huge metal influence. I think what makes our sound unique is the range of music and influences we listen to and subconsciously pull from. In the world of hardcore and metal, we all like a very specific set of bands and styles which we end up blending together.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

No backing tracks, no playing to click, no gimmicks. Just five best friends playing hardcore music with genuine energy.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

It’s our first time at Bloodstock.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We found out toward the end of 2024 and we were genuinely shocked. As we’ve been a band for over 10 years I think a lot of us thought any opportunity to play a fest like Bloodstock had gone years ago. It’s nice to know that the team at Bloodstock want us there.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Our first full length record was released January 2024 and it includes a couple of old songs that we re-recorded and brought back to life. We’ll be playing most of those songs so it’s a nice mix of old and new.

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Trivium!

What are you working on at the moment?

Demos for new music. It’s been a weird year for us with a lot of changes in our personal lives but we’re still trying to write music and translate all these experiences into it.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Too many fights and knockouts to count.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

A cold can of lager. These days, with a water chaser.
