Road to Bloodstock: NeonFly

Continuing our run of letting you know a little more about as many of the bands on at Bloodstock 2025 as we possibly can before you get a chance to see them, we have Neonfly. This bunch play on the Sophie Lancaster stage on the Saturday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Ireland, Paris, Mexico, England, Poland and the Channel Islands.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Fourteen beautiful years… in various iterations.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It was plucked out of the aether by our band founder, Frederick Thunder – its meaning to this day is a mystery.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I can’t describe it. I’d respectfully ask your readers to have a listen and make their own minds up, and if they feel it’s unique then that’s nice… it’s not for me to say.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Guitars, fire, energy, sweat, passion, melody, physicality, interaction and overall, positivity. I can’t answer the second question. Playing gigs is not a competitive sport for me. I love performing and if people want to share that love with me and hear our music that’s great. If not, that’s cool too… it’s a free country.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We’ve played the New Blood Stage in 2010, and the Sophie Lancaster Stage in 2013. It’s like a lovely homecoming.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

Probably a year ago. Bloodstock asked us, and we said as one “yes’”.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

All killer, no filler.

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I’m focused on our gig to be honest but I would be partial to some Gojira. No chance of a clash there.

What are you working on at the moment?

Some new songs for our fourth album.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I once saw a solo artist fall over his own Marshall stack then fall off the stage before he sang a note at Dublin Castle one night. I think this was my favourite live performance ever.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

A nice cup of tea…or a strong coffee if I’m feeling terribly adventurous.
