Road to Bloodstock: Phon

Continuing our run of letting you know a little more about as many of the bands on at Bloodstock 2025 as we possibly can before you get a chance to see them, we have Phon. This bunch play on the EMP Stage on the Sunday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Worcester; the place where the sauce is made.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

This iteration has been playing music together since September, but romantically since 2020.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Phon is Latin for a unit of the perceived loudness of sounds.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are the Swiss army knife of heavy music – we take all the best bits and f**k them together.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

It’s been quoted “I couldn’t look away from the stage, the performance was so erratic I didn’t know what was going to happen next” there is also a strong chance a member may pass out at any given time from sending it too hard.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Craig (drummer): “Yes, this will be my 10th year, first time playing. It’s a small and friendly festival, all about the party and I look forward to this year’s bin jousting!”

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We got the email in March and had to keep our mouths shut till May!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

One with a beginning, a middle and an end! But seriously, turn up and find out!

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Gojira – we are so down for some French whale metal! We also wanna check out The Cartographer and Spitting Teeth on the New Blood Stage.

What are you working on at the moment?

Working out if we can tune lower, answering the question, how many cymbals are too many? All in preparation for our forthcoming album.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Armpits getting licked and headstocks smashing teeth.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Ollie and Liam: “believe it or not green tea for the voice and Guinness for the send”

Crag: “5 beers minimum”
