Continuing our run of letting you know a little more about as many of the bands on at Bloodstock 2025 as we possibly can before you get a chance to see them, we have Baelfýr. This bunch play on the new Blood Stage on the Friday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, but with members that travel from Leicester and Doncaster.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We initially formed in 2023, but given that we didn’t know each other before forming the band, it took a while to find the right mix of members, we eventually started gigging together last October and we’ve gone from strength to strength since then.
Where does the name of the band come from?
When we started the band we were writing about English folklore, a style that we’ve since moved on from, but the name was derived from Old English and it’s a word for a sacrificial fire. It still works as a band name despite the shift in lyrical content.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
The most succinct description of our music is blackened death metal, but we do borrow a lot from other styles, it’s largely mid tempo and slightly atmospheric at times, punctuated with moments of extreme intensity. What sets us apart from other bands who play similar styles is probably the bass, it does what it’s meant to do, and accentuates the heaviness of our sound, but where appropriate veers off in a somewhat proggy direction.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
There’s no bells and whistles, an unpretentious metal show with no delusions of grandeur. A pure unadulterated death metal onslaught.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Some of us have, for others it will be a first, you’re not likely to find a friendlier more passionate crowd anywhere in the UK and we can’t wait to contribute our part to it’s legacy.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the Leicester region.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Absolute disbelief
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Something that demonstrates the full breadth of our sound, ranging from the calm and atmospheric to a display of barely contained rage.
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
We’re playing on the Friday so we’re really hoping we don’t have any cross over with Emperor.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’ve just released the first single from our upcoming EP, which comes out on the 8th of August, which coincidentally is the day we play Bloodstock so we’re promoting that release right now and that will continue up until Bloodstock weekend, of course we’re keeping active with gigs and trying to make as many people as possible aware of our Bloodstock appearance.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Our gigs have actually all been very well behaved so far, so unfortunately no wild antics thus far.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Whichever lager is on tap at the venue.
