Finnish melodic death metal outfit I Am Your God have officially released a fierce, modernized rendition of Iron Maiden’s legendary 1988 classic, “The Evil That Men Do”. Issued via Out Of Line Music, the track marks the second promotional single to emerge from their highly anticipated upcoming cover EP, Foregods.
The Foregods studio collection is engineered as a dedicated five-track tribute celebrating the quintessential forefathers of extreme music and heavy metal. For this sophomore single, the Rovaniemi quintet chose to deliver the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son fan favorite by fusing the original song’s soaring melodic energy with the full, aggressive weight of their trademark contemporary melodeath soundscape. The track holds an incredibly deep personal significance for lead songwriter and guitarist Matti Hietala, who credits Iron Maiden as the exact foundational catalyst that inspired him to pick up a guitar in his youth.
Vocalist Julius Vetämäjärvi elaborated on the creative direction behind the project, sharing:
“When we started to discuss about doing cover songs, we wanted to bring in also songs and bands that are quite different from our own melodeath style. Iron Maiden is the best and biggest influence to metal music, and it’s also the band that inspired our songwriter Matti to start playing guitar in the beginning. Even though we could have made a cover from almost any song from the classic 80’s Maiden albums, Matti suggested the legendary ‘The Evil That Men Do’ to be the next cover song, because it’s so energetic and fun to play.”
The full Foregods track list features a collaborative curation process, with each individual band member bringing one defining musical influence to the table. Alongside Iron Maiden, the final EP will showcase reimagined versions of tracks from In Flames, Sentenced, Dissection, and Children of Bodom—the latter of which was honored in April via the release of lead single “Are You Dead Yet?”. The single is available to stream across all digital platforms now ahead of the band’s upcoming live appearances at Rockholm Festival and Summer Breeze Open Air.
