To celebrate six years of tearing things up, The Troops of Doom have decided to immortalise their take on the Kiss classic “God of Thunder”. It’s not just a standard cover, though; they’ve brought along a few legendary mates to help out, including Chuck Billy of Testament and Martin Furia from Destruction. Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz explains that the track has been a staple of their live show since they started in 2020. “Whenever the audience hears this song playing through the PA, they already know the band is about to hit the stage. It’s almost a ritual for us. We all grew up listening to Kiss, so this track has always held a special meaning.”
The recording features the usual suspects – Alex Kafer on vocals, Jairo Guedz and Marcelo Vasco on guitars, and Alexandre Oliveira on drums—but with some seriously heavy-duty guests. Alongside Chuck Billy, we’ve got Andria Busic (Dr. Sin), PJ (Jota Quest), and Martin Furia, who pulled double duty by recording the guitar solo and handling the mixing and mastering.
This release is a bit of a bittersweet one, as it marks the final collaboration with guitarist Marcelo Vasco. He recently announced he’s moving on, with his farewell show set for 1st May at CDM Metal Fest. It’s a hell of a way to go out, especially since the Destroyer album, which originally featured “God of Thunder”, recently hit its 50th anniversary.
The band are staying busy before Marcelo bows out, with a couple of massive shows in Brazil before the guys head over to Europe for the festival season. They’ve got slots booked at Wacken Open Air, Alcatraz, and Vagos Metal Fest.
The track is out now on all the usual digital platforms, and there’s a visualizer clip doing the rounds if you want to see the lads in action. As Jairo puts it, the song is simply a celebration of a shared love for Kiss and heavy music. Hard to argue with that.
