We love a good cover version here at Moshville Times, especially when a band takes a proper cheesy pop classic and drags it through the fuzz-pedal mud. That is exactly what Swedish garage-rockers Satan Takes A Holiday have done with their latest single, transforming the massive Grease hit “You’re the One That I Want” into a gritty, doomy rock stomper.
Originally sung by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the track is usually associated with school discos and wedding DJs. However, these lads have stripped away the 70s pop gloss and replaced it with pure swagger and subversion. It’s a cracking example of how to pay homage to a tune while making it sound completely fresh.
The single is the centrepiece of their new EP, Covering Our Tracks: Part 1, which lands on January 16th via Icons Creating Evil Art. As the title suggests, this is the first instalment of a larger project running through to the summer of 2026. The band aren’t just looking for easy hits, though; they’ve dug into their musical lineage to reinterpret songs that shaped their sound.
The EP kicks off with a high-voltage duet of the Ramones’ “Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World”, featuring their mate Rockenrollex. Elsewhere, they’ve roped in The Hellacopters’ Nicke Andersson for a blazing guitar solo on “Gettin’ Away With Murder” (originally by Australian glam-rockers Baby Grande). They also mash up The Dirtbombs with some help from Danne McKenzie, before closing out proceedings with a modern take on Link Wray’s instrumental classic “Rumble! 2026”.
If you like your rock ‘n’ roll with a bit of garage grit and punk attitude, this collection proves these guys know their history – and exactly how to rewrite it.
