Classic Cover: Amphettamine – “Anesthesia” (original by Type O Negative)

Post/gothic rock project Amphettamine has just unveiled its latest single, a powerful reimagining of “Anesthesia”, a classic from the iconic gothic metal band Type O Negative. This release serves as both a tribute and an artistic statement preceding the singer’s highly anticipated second full-length album.

Project founder Amandha Ribaski explains her deep connection to the original track:

I’ve always been a huge fan of Type O Negative, and this song in particular — despite being one of the band’s classics — is my favourite. I can honestly say that “Anesthesia” is a song I’ve always wished I had been the original composer of. Beyond the profound lyrics, which are similar to the kind I write, it also contains instrumental elements I love — elements that, in an inspiring way, are also present in Amphettamine’s music. In short, it’s a song I wish I had written, so I felt it was fitting to pay tribute to it while I continue working on the compositions for my second full-length album.

Amphettamine’s re-recording brings a fresh perspective to the track while preserving the dark, melancholic essence that made it an anthem for Type O Negative fans. The single acts as a bridge between the artist’s earlier work and the new material set to appear on her upcoming project.

Amphettamine is a solo project conceived in early 2020 by Amandha Ribaski. Lyrically, it delves into dark, real, and everyday themes inspired by personal experiences, with melodies drawing influences from post-grunge, gothic, and industrial sounds.
