Classic Covers: Evenline – Deeper Underground

Much as I admire Jamiroquai (and hear he’s a top bloke), I’ve never been a huge fan of his music. There are a couple of standout tracks and his videos can be incredible – “Virtual Insanity” is one I can watch over and over. In a similar green-screened style is “Deeper Underground”, filled with monster feet, falling cars and a tip-toeing Jamiroquai hopping from seat-back to seat-back in a flooded cinema.

Evenline have just released their own video of their cover version. The band haven’t attempted to compete in the effects stakes, but have put together a wonderfully heavy homage to the original. In some ways it reminds me of Alien Ant Farm’s cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”. It flows like the original, but takes it well into rock territory with a couple of its own twists.

Evenline launch their new album, In Tenebris, in January. “Deeper Underground” is one of the ten tracks on there. You can pre-order it [amazon text=from Amazon right now&asin=B01N94EDSB] (link supports this site).
