As we hit the halfway point in the year, the Headline Acts continue to come in. It’s always a pleasure to be introduced to a band we’ve not heard of before, and Our North are no exception! Have a read and check out their latest single, streaming at the bottom.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Based in a few different places in South Yorkshire. Barnsley, Sheffield, Wakefield and Selby.
How did you meet?
Dan and the Chris’s were in a band called cold summer before Our North was a thing. Sam came along as a screamer from an online ad. Jonny came from an ad on joinmyband.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We’ve been going a few years now but changed our vibe a little in the past year or so.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
We all live in the northern parts of England and we believe that it belongs to us all. Our North gives us a place we all belong.
What are your influences?
We find ourselves quite lucky in our style that we can look at many different things for inspiration. This EP focuses mainly on the mixture between trap and metal so a few influences from bands like Architects, While She Sleeps and other artists such as Future and Travis Scott.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We have the rap side and the heavy side. While this might not sound unique on paper, we blend it in a way that has it’s own unique feel. We have the sound that you know is ours but all of our songs are different in some way.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We have a few themes throughout. For example, our title track “Everyone for Themselves” starts with a rap about how complacent people are with how they think about themselves rather than the other issues that are affecting people. I think that we put our hearts into the writing and mainly focus on issues that affect us in many different ways from personal at home topics, to rather touchy subjects about how the current times are a bit rubbish and that things need to change.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We’ve had a good few shows. We’ve played Satan’s hollow in Manchester and Corporation in Sheffield (a couple of times). Our live shows are all about putting that energy forward that we present in our recorded materials. We make sure that there’s never silence and that energy is kept up.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Feel like everyone has their ‘one time at band camp’ stories! We have a fair few stories from gigs we’ve done prior to Our North. Personally, my story (Jonny), is from a show I played in a previous band where we just all played drunk as hell. Can’t remember any of the show apart from being asked to play again on another date. Can’t have been too bad.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We all use a big bit of gear for our in-ear mix that we call ‘Megatron’. That’s a Behringer XAir linked to a laptop with all of our personal mixes set up.
Dan:
- Fender Telecaster
- Marshall Code
Chris (guitar) :
- Fender Telecaster
- Marshall Code
Chris (Bass) :
- Ibanez GSR205B-WNF
- He has some presets that he plugs into
Jonny (Drums) :
- Fat bob Snare
- A Custom cymbals (hi-hat, Crash, Ride)
- Sabian holy china
- Roland SPD-SX
- Speed Cobra Double pedal
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our EP Everyone for Themselves is coming out soon. We currently have one single out with another coming out soon. The hype is real.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
We want to see everyone love this EP. We want to be out gigging and seeing how far we can reach. If you’re reading this, hit us up, we love a gig.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Headliner would have to be one of our influences. I’m thinking either Architects or While She Sleeps though. Would be better for pits to go on.
The first band would have to be one of those that has the same vibe as us. We supported The Intersphere at Corporation Sheffield and they were cool guys that we wouldn’t mind sharing a stage with again.
