24 Songs of Xmas 2025: The Pretty Reckless – “Where Are You Christmas?”

For the third entry in our “24 Songs of Xmas” countdown for 2025, we turn to a band that usually deals in grit rather than tinsel. Just in time for the festive season, rock powerhouse The Pretty Reckless has returned with a special seasonal release, the Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas EP. The collection is out now via Fearless Records and offers a distinctively harder edge to the usual holiday playlist.

The centrepiece of the EP is undoubtedly the reimagined version of “Where Are You Christmas?”. The track holds a special significance for frontwoman Taylor Momsen, who originally performed the song as the character Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 film How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Marking the first time she has revisited the song since the film’s release twenty-five years ago, Momsen has transformed the heartwarming ballad into a refreshed rock anthem, bridging the gap between her past as a child actor and her current status as a rock icon.

However, the EP is not merely a nostalgia trip. It also features four original tracks that channel the band’s signature passion and defiance. Songs like “I Wanna Be Your Christmas Tree” lean into a warmer, more familiar holiday sound, while tracks such as “Christmas Is Killing Me” maintain the heavy rock foundation that fans have come to expect. The result is a collection that spans the emotional spectrum of the season, moving from stripped-back introspection to gritty, high-energy performance.

Speaking about the project, Momsen explained how a single idea snowballed into a full release: “Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas started as just one song, but the moment we got into the studio, it took on a life of its own. There was so much emotion, nostalgia and chaos wrapped up in it that it didn’t feel right to leave it standing alone. To really honour it, I needed to build a whole world around it. That’s how this project became a full body of work. Something bigger, deeper and far more personal than I ever expected.”

The release caps off another busy period for the band, who have continued to dominate the airwaves with their recent single “For I Am Death”. With this new EP, they offer the ultimate gift for fans: a holiday collection that breaks tradition while staying true to their authentic sound.
