Northern Irish rock legends Ash are capping off a frenetic 2025 with a seasonal surprise, unleashing their own high-energy take on the Christmas standard “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”. The single is available to stream now via Fierce Panda, offering a festive bookend to a year that has seen the band firing on all cylinders. While frontman Tim Wheeler has form when it comes to yuletide tunes—most notably his 2011 collaborative album This Is Christmas with Emmy The Great—this release marks the first time Ash have dropped a dedicated Christmas single as a full band. It arrives as the trio celebrate a year defined by the release of their acclaimed new album Ad Astra, a summer of festival appearances, and extensive touring.
Drummer Rick McMurray reflects on the band’s non-stop schedule and their decision to embrace the festive spirit:
“Here we are then; the final month of 2025 and what a year it’s been. A flurry of touring, a brand new album, a summer of festival appearances – all gone in a flash. It feels like only yesterday we were touring with The Darkness and preparing to drop our first single from the album in the form of a cover of the classic ‘Jump The Line’. But wait; we’re not done yet. Because we’re wrapping this year up the way we started with another surprise cover, this time it’s ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’. So get your reind-ears around this future Christmas classic and let’s get festive!”
Having just completed a string of sold-out shows across Ireland, the band have one final date in Belfast this December before taking a short break. They will return to the road in February 2026 for a comprehensive UK headline tour in support of Ad Astra. Tickets have been flying out the door, with the majority of venues already at capacity.
