It is Day 7 of our 2025 Advent Calendar (check out the playlist which we grow every year), and today we are highlighting a release that combines festive cheer with a deeply personal cause. Katy and the Wild Ones have unveiled their new charity single, “Christmas Time Is Finally Here”, with all proceeds supporting Endometriosis UK. Released via Flip Flop Records, the track is a feel-good anthem born from a story of remarkable resilience.
Katy Dann, the Welsh singing sensation fronting the project, was once tipped as one of the UK’s most promising young voices. Signed to the legendary Rockfield Studios label at just 16, she was courting interest from major labels like Atlantic and Sony by the age of 19, with Fatboy Slim lined up to remix her debut. However, her career was derailed by a diagnosis of endometriosis. This chronic, debilitating condition made the physical demands of recording and touring impossible, leading to the loss of her funding and a premature pause on her musical dreams.
Over the next two decades, Katy faced numerous surgeries and hospital stays, yet her passion for music never waned. She achieved success in France, where she was affectionately dubbed “La Voix”, and defied medical odds to become a mother. Now 44, and facing further surgery, she has returned to the spotlight. Invited by Simon Mulvey of the Bay City Rollers to record a Christmas single, she seized the opportunity to raise awareness for the condition that has shaped her life.
The “Wild Ones” in the band’s moniker refers to a true supergroup of backing musicians. Joining Dann and Mulvey are Trevor Murrell (Wham!, George Michael, Sade), Ovidio Lopez (Gilbert O’Sullivan), Mikey Rowe (Oasis, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds), and Thomas Vikström (Therion). The track was produced by Nick Brine, whose credits include The Darkness, Bruce Springsteen, and Teenage Fanclub.
Katy Dann explains her motivation: “Music has always been my lifeline. I’ve lost so much to this disease, but if my story can raise awareness and help other women get the support they need, then it’s all been worth it.”
Endometriosis UK, the leading charity for the 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth affected by the disease, has welcomed the support. A spokesperson commented: “Katy, like so many others, has faced a difficult journey with her endometriosis, and it’s so empowering that this hasn’t stopped her in her tracks to achieve her goals.”
