KURO – what are their influences?

It’s a huge week for Scottish alt metallers, KURO. The band will unveil their blistering new EP, Circling The Drain, this Friday, and are preparing for a run of live shows. We caught up with the rising hard hitters to talk about exclusively about the tracks that have greatly influence their infectious sound…

DOPE – “I’m Back” voted for by K & Robbie

The hard edge of tenacity in the lyrics combined with the in-your-face hammering of the hooks of the song makes it impossible not to love. The song carries such a simplicity that you can’t not have it worm its way into your head. This song was very much an influence in the early frame-work of our music for these reasons. Not to mention the breakdown freaking slaps. This song went hard for us in our teenage years.

The Defiled – “In The Land Of Fools” voted for by Robbie

The Defiled were a band from London, which were obviously my ends growing up, that never quite fully broke. I remember how their songs and image struck me immediately and had a huge influence. This song has such a hard hitting groove to kick off their debut album. The riff is impossible not to bang your head to. This is metal with an industrial edge done right. A crime they never got bigger.

Nine Inch Nails – “March Of The Pigs” voted for by K

There’s so much I can say about this song, how it has so much chaos happening in the opening, it gives the attitude of I-don’t-give-a-fuck and how it grinds a whole lot of uncomfortable sound and textures into something that hypes you up. It was hard to not be influenced by all of these elements!

Meshuggah – “Bleed” voted for by Ruffy

“Bleed” by Meshuggah opened my eyes to the possibilities of double bass drum patterns, showing how they can drive a song with both intensity and intricate rhythm.

Coal Chamber – “Loco” voted for by J.B

I just love the low end of the song and the band in general. With the slap and twang of the strings not only do you get depth but also groove. A big inspiration to me as we move forward with our new sound.
