I encountered the lovely people of RACPA about a year ago at Wildfire Festival and randomly came across them on facebook again this week via a friend’s post. First off, who are they?
RACPA are a charity – Rock Against Child Pornography and Abuse. Good music for a good cause. They maintain a platform both online and offline for the reporting of child abuse, including a point of contact for victims to allow the gears to start turning and hopefully help the authorities track down and suitably punish those involved. The key thing here is that they offer an anonymous service for victims or those concerned about others to talk to (including confidential email) and can provide information regarding what options are available to them.
The attend rock gigs in an informal manner, where they spread the word of their good work as well as operate a “drop in” environment where people in need can have a chat.
They were recently at Uprising and this year they will again be at Wildfire in Scotland, as well as Beermageddon.
Do please check out their website, and feel free to wander up and see them if they’re at something you’re attending. Winston the basset hound will be only too happy to say hello!
