Exclusive track by track: Godeth – The Path Of Destruction

Rampant Brit hard-hitters Godeth are set to break through to the masses with their unstoppable new EP, The Path of Destruction, which arrives on Friday 26th April. We exclusively caught up with vocalist Miles Case-Watson and he offered this unique track by track breakdown of the EP:

It could not be overstated just how frankly and vehemently I have poured the meanings apparent within myself into The Path of Destruction. This first EP release I have carried out with Godeth has been quite the foray into finding my feet as a musical artist and as a lyricist.

When the instrumentals for these tracks were laid down, I couldn’t stop dwelling on how much I vibed with the rhythms and the heat on each track. I just knew I had to write equally inventive and playful lyrics to match. The intensity of the performances I would make would need to match in intensity also.

These are my descriptions upon the contextual lyrical meanings behind each track.

1. Test My Resolve

The opening track to the EP is “Test My Resolve”. This track is arguably a good choice as a punchy opener for the EP. Drawing on punk styles and with a short run time it was allowed for me to be a bit looser with the structure than I would come to be with the other tracks.

The lyrics basically attempt to illustrate my feelings of resolute steadfastness in the face of events/forces/people in my life that had attempted to ruin my mental health and bring me to my lowest. I discuss moving on from trauma and letting time move forward and allowing yourself the freedom to feel what you need to in order to grow and heal from a wounding experience.

2. Coup De Grâce

“Coup De Grâce” is quite honestly one of the most brutally honest tracks on the EP. I have been unafraid to be quite grossly frank in the endeavour of writing lyrics for this track. The song dialogues upon my poor and failing mental health and uses metaphorical devices to indirectly but also quite bluntly make a statement upon how I am dealing with my daily struggles.

3. Cartilage

“Cartilage” is a hard hitter. Possibly being one of my favourite tracks on the EP. It couldn’t not be on this record as, in my eyes at least, it very much encompasses lyrically and sonically quite succinctly so the emotions and impact we are trying to elicit with this music.

Again, the topic of the track is an ice cold plunge head first into the realm in which we all visit sometimes late at night when we have not been able to sleep.

The cartilage is tearing.

4. Solace

The next track “Solace” has been in our arsenal for a few years now, earning its place as the final song of each set as it brings chaos in a live setting, with a nonstop attack of hard-hitting riffs. Since releasing the single in July 2023, “Solace” has accumulated several highly rated reviews as well as receiving radio play, including BBC Radio 1. With the The Path of Destruction coming to fruition, it only seemed logical to have this song in the track listing. The lyrics are a direct statement that the world is coming to an end and there is no hope within that fact.

5. Hatred

“Hatred” discusses quite literally that. More specifically so personal loathing and cultural/societal hatred. Really it illustrates with topics how individuals within a collective can all have personal hate and an ability to despise. They can carry this with them and learn this ability to hate. This can let them then as a collective hate together easier either a scapegoat or themselves. And how this whole ordeal is a sad descent into crisis. This is what I sing about on “Hatred”.

6. Path of Destruction

The world we live on is a finite plane. This realm will run out of resources, and we will fight and bicker and starve and eventually kill ourselves all one way or another. This is The Path of Destruction. In the end, all the pain and trauma is nothing because everything will eventually burn away, us included.

This track is the highlight and closing chapter on The Path of Destruction EP. Because of this it has the centre stage to close off the record with a big finish.”
